A goal for our Student Professional Development Day is for EVERY STUDENT at the Career and Technology Center to go through a mock interview with an industry-specific employee. We need your help to make this happen!

When: Friday, March 29, 2019--morning session is from 8:15-10:45 and afternoon session is from 12:15-2:45 (You can choose to help at one or the other or both sessions.) Please mark your calendars if you're able to help!

How will it work: Each interviewer will interview 5 students for 20 minutes each--10 minutes for the interview and 10 minutes for feedback about what they did right, what they could improve on, etc. Each student will have a resume and job application; a rubric and interview questions will be provided for you.

Please let Rebecca Peters know if you are able to help or if you have any questions!

The 2019 Earthquake Insight Field Trip will be held on April 12-14. This field trip is for business professionals, risk managers, emergency planners, engineers, government officials, students, faculty, geoscientists, and others who are interested in earthquake hazards and earthquake risks in the Central US.

There is no cost for this field trip, other than personal travel costs, lodging, and meals. Field trip presenters are volunteers.

The route begins in Cahokia, Ill., at 4:00 pm on Friday, April 12. Cahokia, Ill., is just across the Mississippi River from St. Louis, Mo. Overnight stops will be in Chester, Ill., and Dyersburg, Tenn. Route will include parts of southwest Illinois, southeast Missouri, western Tennessee, and western Kentucky. The field trip will dismiss near Cairo, Ill., early afternoon on Sunday, April 14.

Stops will be made at sites that show geologic evidence of past earthquakes, historic sites related to past earthquake history of the region, geologic hazards of today, and geologic risks to our national transportation, economic, communication, financial, and risk management systems. The geologic history of the 1811-12 New Madrid earthquakes will be included. On Friday evening, an “Earthquakes 101” presentation will be given at the hotel in Chester, Ill., to help participants better understand sites and issues that will be visited on Saturday and Sunday.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs) may be available through the University of Missouri. A minimum of 12 participants are needed for this Earthquake Insight Field Trip to be held. There is a maximum of about 40 and 12 vehicles.

FAQs

What is this thing?

This field trip is an educational and networking event for business professionals, risk managers, emergency planners, engineers, government officials, students, faculty, geoscientists, and others who are interested in earthquake hazards and earthquake risks in the central US. Earthquake Insight Field Trips were first presented in 2005, hosted by Earthquake Insight LLC and sponsored by the US Geological Survey.

Why should I go?

Geoscientists have long recognized the very real risk of earthquakes in the central US. And engineers know how to design structures to resist earthquakes. But unfortunately, a lot of new development still does not consider earthquake hazards. Sites are selected and projects are built without really considering earthquakes. As a result, much of the built environment is at high risk from earthquakes. This field trip will help you recognize this gap between what we know about earthquakes and what we do about them.

Where are we going?

This field trip starts in Cahokia, Ill., which is just across the Mississippi River from St. Louis, Mo. The route includes parts of southwest Illinois, southeast Missouri, western Tennessee, and western Kentucky. This itinerary will focus on field evidence of past earthquakes on the New Madrid fault system.

Credit Bureau Services, LLC (CBS), a local collections and credit reporting agency, has been named one of the Top-10 Innovative Agencies in America by Collection Advisor Magazine for its integration of the Facebook Live platform with its services. The publication states that this award was voted on by the readers of the magazine as well as the company’s peers and industry activists. Credit Bureau Services was the only agency selected that is owned and operated by a female CEO.

With the assistance of a local social media marketing firm, Media Leaf, LLC, CBS has a reach of over 4,000 people organically with every post it makes. This helps the promotion efforts of its many clients by giving them a chance to speak to a wide audience about the products and services they offer. CBS also regularly posts its own Facebook Live content to keep clients and consumers in tune with the future of the company. The positive reception to these Facebook Live posts has also opened up the opportunity for CBS to provide another avenue of customer service to its clients via “The Bureau Tribe” section of the company’s Facebook page. Clients can now post a question regarding their accounts receivables challenges, and CBS will provide a timely response to all inquiries.

Credit Bureau Services, LLC’s innovative practices are a testament to the strong efforts of local business owners as the economic landscape in Southeast Missouri and the surrounding area continues to grow. Their client and consumer-first attitude is the most important aspect of their business approach as they strive to lessen the stress accounts receivables challenges can cause for both businesses and consumers alike.
