Saint Francis Packs Over 33,000 Meals in Honor of 150th Anniversary

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – In celebration of Saint Francis Healthcare System’s 150th Anniversary, the Saint Francis Foundation led a special service initiative that far exceeded expectations, rallying nearly 200 volunteers to help fight food insecurity across the region. The original goal of the food packing project? Pack 10,000 meals for local families. But that goal was quickly surpassed. Inspired by overwhelming participation and the generous spirit of colleagues, the Foundation raised its target to 25,000 meals. By the conclusion of the project, volunteers had packed 153 boxes of food—totaling an incredible 33,048 meals. The food was distributed to Catholic Social Ministry Food Pantry and the Southeast Missouri Food Bank, where it will directly support families in need throughout the area. “This project was a beautiful reflection of who we are as a ministry,” said Stacy Huff, Executive Director of Saint Francis Foundation. “We witnessed such compassion, teamwork and joy as our colleagues came together to make a meaningful difference. I couldn’t think of a better way to honor our 150th Anniversary than by serving our community in such a tangible way.” Volunteer shifts took place over several days at Fitness Plus Gym, with team members from all across the organization stepping up to help. The effort demonstrates Saint Francis’ continued commitment to community health and well-being, a legacy that has endured for a century and a half.
