Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri recently celebrated 25 years of serving the Cape Girardeau community with a special anniversary event during the June 24 Cape Catfish game. The celebration brought together families, mentors, volunteers, supporters, and community partners to recognize the organization’s lasting impact and its continued commitment to youth across Southeast Missouri.

Since expanding into the region, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri has connected more than 4,000 local youth each year with caring mentors, school-based programs, and support systems that help young people reach their full potential. Across Eastern Missouri, the organization now serves more than 9,000 youth annually.

The milestone comes on the heels of several national honors received at the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America National Conference. The organization was recognized with the Board of the Year Award, the Platinum Award for Program Excellence, and Ashley Seiler, Chief Partnership Officer and Southeast Missouri native, received the Margaret Slack Award for Professional Development for her leadership and dedication to mentoring.

Today, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri continues to expand its impact through traditional one-to-one mentoring, group mentoring opportunities, school-based programs, professionally trained mentors, and innovative initiatives like ABCToday, developed in partnership with Cape Girardeau Public Schools.

The anniversary celebration also served as an opportunity for community members to learn more about mentoring, volunteering, and partnering with the organization as it looks toward the next 25 years of empowering local youth and strengthening families throughout Southeast Missouri.
