FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 28, 2025

Cape Girardeau: Courtney Corbett has been named new Executive Director of the Discovery Playhouse. The announcement came from Kelly Cox, President of the Board of Directors for Discovery Playhouse. Prior to being named Executive Director, Corbett had served as Development Disabilities - Support Coordinator with Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri. “Children are always ready to play and when they’re enjoying Discovery Playhouse, they have the chance to play and learn at the same time, said Corbett. “I am thrilled to work with the members and families that currently enjoy Discovery Playhouse, and look forward to creating more opportunities for fun and learning for all who visit the museum.” In addition, Corbett gained experience with marketing and non-profits working with the Dairy Council of Florida and Midwest Dairy in Missouri. Her time with those agencies included involvement in the Fuel-Up to Play 60 program, a health and wellness partnership developed by the National Dairy Council and the NFL. “Courtney brings lots of experience with her as our new Executive Director,” commented Deb Simmons, Discovery Playhouse Board Member. “But more than that, she brings positive energy and creativity. We are excited to work with Courtney to take Discovery Playhouse to the next level.” “Discovery Playhouse offers a unique experience to both families and schools. We’ve been excited to welcome school groups from throughout the entire area, reaching into Southern Illinois and Western Kentucky,” noted Corbett. “I’m eager to make our upcoming 20th year the best ever.” Established in 2006 by a group of community leaders, Discovery Playhouse opened at its current building on Broadway in the Spring of 2010. As a member of the Association of Children’s Museums, they follow best practices when it comes to providing highly engaging exhibits and programs, as well as excellent customer service. The facility features 7,500 square feet of exhibits designed for children offering various programs, workshops, and events focusing on science, art, and math. The museum also offers memberships, and corporate sponsorships, along with a venue for children’s birthday parties and youth-focused activities.
