MODOT Update at First Friday Coffee

Cape Girardeau is positioned for economic success in many ways. One of the most prominent features helping our community stand out to new businesses is the abundance of transportation options. First Friday Coffee attendees were joined by District Engineer, Mark Croarkin, and Area Engineer, Brian Okenfuss of MODOT for an update on five local transportation projects. Here's what you need to know:

 

SB 262: Transportation Funding for Critical Infrastructure Projects

  • Fuel tax won’t increase by the first 2.5 cents until Oct. 1, 2021
  • Individuals may apply for a refund on this increase

Chester Bridge

  • Arguably the biggest funding need in the Southeast district
  • Bids for rehabilitation project were rejected in July 2021
  • Currently monitoring bridge; completing preliminary work for replacement project
  • Updated information available at www.modot.org/chesterbridge

U.S. 67/Future I-57

  • Virtual public hearing was held to discuss U.S. 67/Future I-57 in Butler County
  • Phases 1a, 1b and 2 are funded; phases 3 and 4 are unfunded
  • Upgrading to interstate standards means changing access and constructing an outer road network

  • Garver hired to study the area and examine potential options
  • Discussions with local community and businesses will continue

Center Junction DDI

  • Completion anticipated this November
  • MoDOT thanks local residents for their patience throughout construction
