Granting Grace Outreach is a not-for-profit charitable group. It is based in Cape Girardeau, Mo. It was founded in 2015 by then 8 year old Grant Skelton. Grant was given 50 dollars on Thanksgiving of 2015 Bill and Paula Skelton who are his grandparents. Jim and Jo Ella Finley are his other grandparents who gave Grant an additional 25 dollars. His charge was to take the 75 dollars and go help someone. This is a Thanksgiving tradition that the Skelton’s started several years ago with all of their grandkids. Then each grandchild reports back with how they have spent their money. Grant had asked his parents what he should do with his 75 dollars? They suggested that he contact his pastor at Grace United Methodist Church. He asked his pastor if he knew anyone who was in need of some assistance? His pastor told Grant about a man who he had been helping. This man was living in his van in a parking lot located just past the local Wal Mart. The pastor would visit and check on him. He would bring him food and clothes from time to time. Grant decided that this was the way he was going to spend the money he had been given. Grant along with his mother and grandfather took the money to the pastor’s house the night before Christmas Eve. Grant upon returning to the car said “That made me feel great.” He then asked his parents how he could he help people on more of a daily basis? After some conversations about the work and time commitment that would be involved to take on such an endeavor. They decided to meet with their pastor who coached them on how to get started.
