Lutheran Family and Children’s Services Annual Kentucky Derby Party Raises over $35,000 for Programs and Services in the Southeast Missouri Area!

Family and Children’s Services of Southeast Missouri held their Kentucky Derby Party fundraiser event on Friday, May 5th.  This year’s event brought in more money than ever before.  Regional Development Officer, Michelle Ramsey, announced the total on Friday, a week after the event.  “We are simply thrilled, and amazed by the support and generosity of all those who sponsored the event, along with all of those who came out and attended.”  According to Ramsey’s announcement, the organization brought in over $35,000 from the fundraiser, which is a $15,000 increase over last year’s.

The Kentucky Derby Party is one of only two annual fundraisers held by LFCS, and has become a favorite among local supporters, according to Ramsey.  “We made several significant changes, which helped lessen our expenses, while also making some improvements, including the venue, the food, and the entertainment.  We took a long hard look at the event and decided that the Kentucky Derby Party was a great event, but in need of a major makeover in order to help us raise the funds needed to meet our organization’s needs.  Our hope was that we would exceed our fundraising expectations, and we most definitely accomplished that.”

Ramsey added, “This year we added a Peer to Peer fundraising component for the first time, where nine individuals were competing to be the King or Queen of the Kentucky Derby using social media and our online giving platform.”  According to Ramsey, those nine individuals collectively raised over $12,000 in the month leading up to the event.  The King and Queen were announced during the Kentucky Derby Party, Derick Charles is this years’ King, and Tameka Randle is the Queen.

Lutheran Family and Children’s Services of Missouri is a non-profit, statewide social service organization providing counseling, adoption, crisis pregnancy assistance, child care and mentoring services to the community. With offices in Cape Girardeau, St. Louis, Columbia and Springfield, LFCS touches the lives of more than 22,000 individuals annually. The services provided by LFCS are open to everyone regardless of race, faith, national origin, gender or age. Although Lutheran based, more than 85 percent of families served are non-Lutheran.
