Project C.A.P.E. a Success

Finding innovative solutions to complex problems is what we're all about. That's why we were so excited to come together with area partners to put on Cape Girardeau's first Project C.A.P.E. event!

Held at One City, in partnership with First Call for Help, Cape County Transit Authority, Workforce Development Board, Community Partnership of Southeast Missouri, and Legal Services of Southern Missouri, Project C.A.P.E. (Connecting Area Partners for Employment) brought together employers and case managers to discuss how to best bridge the gap between employers and our local workforce.

At the event, employers had the opportunity to share challenges they have when hiring potential employees and retaining employees, and Case Managers communicated the barriers their clients encounter when seeking employment.

Of those in attendance, numerous agencies and employers mentioned they are open to a partnership to begin creating pathways to long-term employment. For example, SEMO Milling and Southeast Correctional Center discussed the re-entry program and will have further discussions regarding onsite interviews and hiring for those nearing their release date.

All in attendance agreed there needs to be ongoing collaboration and communication in some form between their groups.

In addition to transformative conversation, the event included an expungement clinic and job fair.
