The Cape Chamber is currently expanding its team to include a Communications Intern. The Chamber is a private, non-profit, membership-driven organization comprised of nearly 850 business enterprises, civic organizations, education institutions and individuals. The Cape Chamber strives to be the lead advocate for business, serve as the primary catalyst for a vibrant economy that stimulates and retains jobs, and be the champion to create strong communities for the Cape Girardeau region, resulting in an enhanced quality of life.

This opportunity has enormous potential for individuals looking into the field of communications/public relations. The Communications Intern will be exposed to the workings of a regional Chamber of Commerce, will have the opportunity to use their knowledge gained in the classroom and practically apply it to real situations occurring in the Cape Girardeau region.

Job Title: Communications Intern
Semester: Fall 2019
Wage: $8/hour
Reports to: Marketing & Communications Specialist

Position responsibilities:

1. Assist with the content and coordination of Inside Commerce, Member News, and Real Impact the Chamber’s monthly newsletters
2. Assist with all aspects of social media, maintain content calendar, scheduling and ongoing file of pertinent content for Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.
3. Assist with creating blog content for
4. Assist with building and maintaining relationships with Chamber members on social media
5. Actively support and participate in Chamber events, as schedule allows
6. Assist with the coordination of public relations, communications and special events that may arise; to include but not limited to Chamber branding, member testimonials and press releases
7. Assist with photography and videography needs of the Chamber
8. Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

1. Experience with written communications
2. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Premiere Pro, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, e-mail management software
3. Ability to multi-task
4. Strong written and verbal communication skills
5. Ability to think outside the box to offer new ideas, concepts, solutions, etc.
6. Capable of maintaining sensitive/confidential information
7. Acts as a team player that works well in an adapting environment
8. Ability to use digital camera
9. Ability to work with multiple project supervisors
