Celebrating New Business | VanGennip Insurance & Financial Services with Marissa Dirnberger

We love celebrating new business at the Cape Chamber! In 2018 alone, Cape Girardeau welcomed more than 250 new businesses, and we think it's time you get to know some of our Chamber members that have recently opened their doors to our community.

When was your business established?

March 1, 2019

What services does your business offer?

Insurance and financial services (home, auto, business, life, medicare supplements, financial advising, etc.)

What did you do before? Or are you juggling multiple careers?

I’ve worked in the insurance industry since I graduated from SEMO. I worked on the corporate side for agency development before I took over a Farmers Insurance agency. From there, I decided to branch out and open my own independent agency to offer more carriers and products.

How big is your staff?

2 full time and 1 part time including myself

What are your plans for your business’ future?

I plan to expand our agency and grow with a second location.

What’s your most memorable moment with this business?

Our grand opening. It really made me realize how much support I have from friends, family and clients. I couldn’t have done this without them!

What would you say to someone regarding the importance of shopping small/local?

You’re not just supporting a business, you’re supporting a member of your community and a local family. I feel like it’s also a way of showing respect. You support their hard work and determination that comes along with starting a business.

What advice do you have for someone starting out in business?

When it comes to advice, absorb it like a sponge. You can never learn enough! Also, don’t let the fear of failing burden you from achieving your goals.

What’s the best think about having a business in Cape Girardeau?

The opportunity for growth. I do most of my business in Cape Girardeau and the surrounding areas and there’s just so much potential with how fast the area is growing.

How does/will the Cape Chamber help you?

Creating new connections and relationships.

What is one thing someone reading this can do to help your business?

Reach out to me! More often than not when I sit down and visit with someone there’s always some product that people don’t realize I sell within my agency. We have such a diversity in our products it’s hard to know everything we do.
