And if I need to make a connection with a current business, odds are they will be at First Friday Coffee and I have the opportunity to connect. It is also the place where I feel if someone wants to get involved and meet the movers and shakers I can bring them to the FFC and offer them the opportunity to be successful!! It's a tool all in and of itself!”

Elite Travel President and Travel Expert Carolyn Sandgren (Kempf) joined travel professionals across the nation for an international humanitarian cause in the “Agents Give Back” movement.

“We are so lucky to live in a country like America, where our kids can go to school and not worry about clean water and school supplies” says Sandgren. “At Elite Travel Inc., we are always looking for ways to give back to our community as well as the world abroad and this event allows us to be a world citizen helping those less fortunate then us”

The event sponsored by Apple Leisure Group and hosted by the Nicolodean Resort Punta Cana allowed the Elite Team to bring school supplies as well paint an elementary school Escuela Basica Porfirio de Pena located in the mountains outside of Punta Cana.

Travel experts had an intensely entertaining showdown of painting skills complete with local live stock grazing in the school yard, to a running of the bulls moment during the work project.

Senior Matters 2018

Coming up in October is an opportunity that will bring an interesting group of our community together. “Senior Matters” expo is a unique event which will be held on Saturday, October 6th that aims to reach out, help and support seniors over age 55 and seniors from 10 surrounding high schools. The 4th annual “Senior Matters” expo is being held at the Drury Plaza Convention Center in Cape Girardeau. This charity event is unlike any other because it brings vendors to one central location for all of the seniors in our community to be able to find resources such as products, services, organizations and companies geared solely towards them.

Thanks to the support from corporate sponsors the event also awards $500 individual scholarships for any post high school education to local high school seniors. This year’s goal is to award at least 20 deserving students with much needed financial assistance and without the requirement of a particular GPA or written essay. To date, $20,000 in scholarships have been awarded to 40 students from local area high schools.

Additionally, The American Red Cross will be holding a blood drive at the event. In fact, 99 units of blood have been collected over the last 3 years.

So, if you are a senior of ANY kind or just happen to KNOW any seniors….then make it a day to get out of the house and come to the Drury Plaza on October 6 at 3351 Percy Drive

Notre Dame Regional High School's Education Fund Foundation & 1st Class Travel recently partnered together in a Fundraising Project. The Fundraiser's proceeds from the Shades of Ireland trip went to the Alumni Scholarship Fund which helps to provide tuition assistance to Notre Dame students.

The CTC is continuing its WORKFORCE WEDNESDAYS program this school year and we are looking for businesses to take part in the program.

We know that business & industry has a constant need for workers; getting talent and opportunity to connect isn't always easy, and we want to help match our students with your company's workforce needs. To help make this a reality, CTC is asking area businesses to sign up for one of our Workforce Wednesday events. We know that when people make face-to-face connections, they are more likely to remember the experience and build on that relationship. We want our students & instructors to learn about the tremendous companies & opportunities that are right here in our local area! The program will run from September through early May and businesses can choose a convenient date to set up and spend the day at the CTC.

Once a business signs up for a Workforce Wednesday date, information is blasted out to CTC students, instructors, and staff to let them know what business will be visiting each week. Students then drop in on their morning and afternoon breaks to visit with that week's featured employer. Businesses are encouraged to share information about their company, inform students about internship & employment opportunities, and help educate students & instructors about the types of skills & qualities they looking for when hiring. Companies can even conduct on-the-spot interviews. Last year we had some companies sign students up for internships and a few hired students while they were here! With 20+ training programs, we have a wealth of skills and talent waiting to fit your company’s hiring needs.

There is no cost to participate in the program -- we simply ask that you let us know if you hire one of our students. Our hope is that both your company and our students will come away with a greater awareness of the opportunities and talent available here locally and that it's a win-win opportunity for both parties. As an added bonus, visiting businesses are invited to join us for our legendary lunch buffet hosted by our culinary arts program from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.!
