First Friday Coffee Entrepreneurship Panel

July’s First Friday Coffee program focused on entrepreneurship and one thing is certain – Cape Girardeau’s entrepreneurial community is alive and thriving.

Dana Thomas, Skip Wrape and Chris Carnell joined Cape Chamber’s Vice President of Business Development, Shad Burner, on stage to share their unique, entrepreneurial stories.

Contrary to popular belief, entrepreneurship is far more than what is visible at the surface. “Being an entrepreneur, people don’t understand you completely,” said CEO of River City Biologicals, Skip Wrape. “[People] look at you and think you want to make a lot of money, be your own boss and do this and that. To be honest, you’re scared to death. You’re running hard.”

All three panelists agreed that securing a good team and knowing your role are essential in combating the challenges of entrepreneurship. Dana Thomas, Owner of BOLD! Marketing, said, “I’m a big believer in get the right people on the bus and in the rights seats, and if they’re not, move them out. That’s not always favorable, but my one job is to make sure this business sustains.”

Cape Girardeau’s rich history of entrepreneurial activity is responsible for much of our small metro market’s success. Chris Carnell, co-founder of Codefi, shared, “entrepreneurship is a driving factor in economic and social activity,” and our community is certainly a better place because of them.

So thank you, entrepreneurs of all ages, for using your talents to shape Cape Girardeau into the vibrant community that we are.
