Economic Development Division
PURPOSE
Serve as the catalyst for an open exchange of information and plans of action to ensure a superior transportation system for the Cape Girardeau area.
GOAL
Support cooperative efforts of all transportation entities to enhance safety, efficiency and economic development.
OBJECTIVES
Work with the state of Illinois, the Delta Regional Authority, and local legislators on a four-lane east/west highway through Cape Girardeau;
Evaluate and take action on all pertinent transportation issues;
Include regional issues in the committee’s focus and seek ways to access state and federal funds for those issues;
Monitor and work toward successful completion of projects funded by Transportation Trust Fund 3;
Partner with the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport to enhance air passenger options and identify economic development possibilities;
Partner with the SEMO Regional Port Authority in advancing river transport issues and in keeping current with developments at other Mississippi River port authorities;
Continue work with the Health and Human Services Committee on the feasibility of planning for future bicycle lanes.
GOAL
Partner with the Missouri Department of Transportation on projects mutually beneficial to the area and the state of Missouri.
OBJECTIVES
Actively work with the Missouri Transportation Alliance;
Review and take action on any proposed funding mechanisms;
Offer to host a meeting of the MODOT Commission;
Work with the local MPO when formed;
Sponsor an appropriate event to recognize the efforts of all those who work in the field of transportation.
